With Grafton gearing up to race again next Monday it is time to review the most recent Grafton meeting Coutts Crossing Cup Day.
The afternoon could not have started better for Grafton based horses with the Jason Reilly yard starting the season off well when Skoozi’s Flyer scored a solid win in the maiden 1185m.
As is so often the case with the Reilly yard the gelding was purchased online after having had four unplaced Queensland runs.
His form since joining Reilly had been promising with two solid fourths and it came as no surprise Skoozi’s Flyer was strongest in the run to finish to score a very impressive victory.
Reilly lamented after the race it had been along time since he found his way to the winners circle but in fairness the stable has had limited runners in recent months.
While the day started well we had to wait until the final event of the day for Grafton to record its second winner when the Greg Howells prepared Blend scored a very impressive win in the Class 1185m.
With the addition of Blinkers Blend went starlight to the top and was travelling like a winner throughout. When Brooke Stower released the brakes on the point of the home turn it was race over in a couple with Blend racing away to score an easy victory.
Blend continues the great run of success being had by the Howells yard in selecting the right horses from Victoria on the online sales system with Blend being the fourth horse in succession selected by the old master to replay his purchase price in quick time.
