As we prepare for BLUES BREWS & BBQS today it is time to review Lismore last week.
Veteran trainer Greg Howells was in the winners circle again with stable newcomer My Brother Bob scoring a strong win in the Maiden 1410m.
My Brother Bob was having his third run for the yard and went straight to the top and set a nice tempo, with Anthony Allen then kicking away on the home turn to establish a wining break.
The plan was for My Brother Bob to start today but when he drew a tricky gate Howells elected to scratch the gelding and wait for another day.
Grafton’s other winner was September Girl which was having its first run from a spell for the Shane Everson yard.
September Girl had been a certainty beaten on Grafton on cup day but had disappointed punters in three subsequent starts but for those punters with a good memory the $7 on offer was way to good to refuse about the mare who has an impressive first up record.
Ridden by Emily Lang September Girl sat off the pace before weaving between runners in the straight to win with plenty of authority.
The win by September Girl continues the solid season being experienced by the Everson stable with September Girl providing win number eleven for the year.
The win by September Girl could also prove a tonic for stable apprentice Olivia Pickering who is battling a hand injury at the moment.
