Lismore on Monday was the latest venue for Grafton to produce a winner at the start of the new season with Jason Reilly finding his way to the winners circle with NORMAS JOY when that mare was successful in the Maiden 1545m.
Aided by what was undoubtedly the ride of the day by Brooke Stower NORMAS JOY had to overcome a bad gate and after originally being caught deep Stower took the option to steady drop and look for cover.
Approaching the home turn Stower was awkwardly placed well back in the field but showed great patience to wait and take advantage of the cutaway.
There is no doubt this proved to be a winning tactic with the breaks coming and Stower and NORMAS JOY weaving a clear passage to storm home between runners and get up right on the line.
Reilly who is a regular purchaser of tried horses explained after the race that NORMAS JOY was another cheapie he had secured online with great results the win on Monday has seen NORMAS JOY earn more than thirty eight times her purchase price since joining the Reilly yard.
Not a bad result for a battler.
