Last seasons premier John Shelton has had a slow start to season 2020 but that is normally the case after the July Racing Carnival.
That issue was not helped by TARBERT having zero luck in the Daniel Baker Sprint at Coffs Harbour on Coffs Cup Day.
However all was forgotten at Taree Cup meeting last Friday when TARBERT scored a final stride victory in the Hopkins Livermore Cup 1400m.
Ridden by Ben Looker the gelding settled midfield the fence in an awkward spot before Looker was able to ease into the clear on the point of the home turn.
Once in clear air TARBERT worked to the line strongly to reach the lead in the shadows of the post and score a very solid win.
Like many trainers in country NSW John Shelton is hoping that with a bit of luck TARBERT might just sneak his way into a Kosciuszko berth later in the year with five wins from ten starts since joining the stable it is not an impossible dream.
