With the NSW Government and Racing NSW getting everything sorted for the return of race patrons last weekend Lismore was the first Northern Rivers Club to welcome back the public on Sunday.
Those that made the trip got to see a big day for Grafton trainers with three of the seven races going to horses based here.
Andy Parramore was successful with a horse owned by fellow Grafton trainer Paul Richardson in the Maiden 1210m.
Ridden a treat by Brooke Stower the gelding was able to find the fence midfield before Stower weaved her way through the field in the straight to find a gap close to the fence and sprint through to win well.
Whilst there were plenty of rumours doing the rounds on track as to the origins of the horses race name, I am assured it was not because he was little and very hard to teach things too.
What was the horses name you ask “Ändy”.
Win two for Grafton was with the Jason Reilly trained Franklin Corners who was able to make it two on the bounce following a success on Lismore Cup Day.
Again ridden by Matt Bennett Franklin Corners settled outside the leader in the BM 58 1310m before Bennett pushed the go button shortly after heading for home. Franklin Corners sprinted quickly and was never really in any danger of defeat from that point of the race.
It continued the great run Jason has experienced with the gelding with him now recording five wins in under 12 months giving his connections almost $80000 reasons to smile.
Win three saw Fleur Blanch and Jai Williams catch the opposition napping when Nanakorobi Yaoki showed a clean pair of heels throughout to win impressively in the BM 58 1310m.
In what looked like a case of jump, find the fence and increase your lead to the winning post Jai Williams had established a six length lead on the mare by the 600m with a further six length break back to the third horse .
It was clear once heads were turned for home that it was pretty much race over with all of the chasers already off the bit.
In the end Nanakorobi Yaoki kept going strongly to the line and was still in excess two lengths clear when the judge called a halt.
This was the third win for the mare since joining the Blanch yard from the might of the Chris Waller stable early last year.
The two Andys at Lismore after the win.
