There is no doubt the last couple of months have been the toughest that Greg Kilner has endured during his time in racing with the injuries suffered by his daughter Leah in a fall at Grafton in early July.
The good news continues that Leah is making a recovery but still has a long road ahead of her.
In true racing spirit Greg has had to soldier on in these difficult times and has done a marvellous job with stable star Swanston.
A trip to Doomben in mid August with the prospect of having to overcome a horror draw from the tricky 1600m start certainly did not look like a likely script for success.
However with an aggressive ride from Tegan Harrison which saw Swanston take control of the tempo in the middle stages and then really up the speed coming to the turn saw the gelding race away to score a very impressive victory.
As all trainers know the more you go up in grade the harder they are to place and Kilner was forced to come back in trip to 1350m for his next start at the Gold Coast last Saturday.
This time ridden by Anthony Allen Swanston went forward early but then took the drop on the leaders in the run to the turn before coming with a powerful burst over the final 200m to race right away and score another easy win.
Swanston has now recorded eight wins for Kilner and has won over $200,000 since Greg found him on an online sale as an unraced 2yo back in April 2020.
