As we prepare for the races today its is a good time to catch up on recent Grafton trained winners.
Grafton’s newest trainer Tony Newing will tell you himself although it has taken a little time to settle into his new training routine the last couple of weeks have seen more than a little light at the end of the tunnel.
Newing headed to Murwillumbah cup meeting where he had good success taking two runners for two winners.
In the BM 58 1100m Single Touch ridden by Matt McGuren sat just off the pace before shifting into the three wide line on the point of the home turn and then holding off the challengers in the run to the line to score a solid win.
Earlier in the day Newing had saddled up Lismore Cup hopeful Savvy Lad in the Tygalgah Cup 2020m. Ridden by Andrew Mallyon Savvy Lad stalked the leaders before Mallyon got on his bike just before the turn to attack and Savvy Lad did the rest running away to score a very impressive victory.
Savvy Lad then made the trip to Lismore last Thursday with a change of rider back to stable hoop Matt McGuren lead throughout to score a very easy win in the Lismore Cup Prelude 2120m. McGuren was given his own way in front and it was almost race over at the halfway mark given the tempo he was allowed to set. Once heads were turn ed for home Savvy Lad Dashed away to win with plenty in the locker.
No doubt a Lismore Cup is a step up in class but as they say winning form is good form and with two on the bounce it is a case of who knows.
