Grafton Winners

It has been a big couple of weeks for Grafton based trainers with winners rolling off like a production line.
At the Casino Cup Meeting on Saturday two trainers were in the winners stalls from the five races.
Tony Newing was first to win with the aptly named Casino Coast scoring a sold win in the Maiden 1400m ridden by Matt McGuren Casino Coast was having its first start for team Newing after being picked up online for a song.
McGuren settled the gelding well back in the field before coming with a well timed run through the centre of the track to drop on the leaders in the shadows of the post to win well.
Not to be outdone by her inform husband, Sam McGuren found her way to the winners circle in the final event of the day.
In what has been an outstanding training effort Sam was able to win a fourth race with Cowgirl Lily from her last twenty starts.
Sam had recognised that Cowgirl Lily needed the benefit of an apprentice claim and booked another inform rider in Shae Wilkes to pilot the mare.
Wilkes allowed Cowgirl Lily to settle midfield before shifting into clear air in the early part of the straight however it took Cowgirl Lily all of the tough Casino straight to reel in the leaders and win right on the line.
The trick for McGuren will be to find a suitable race to take the mare up to five career wins. Judging on history she might just do it.
