As we move to our second meeting for the year on Tuesday it is time for a further update on the success of Grafton trainers over the Christmas break.
As is always the case Grafton trainers looking for success over this period spend plenty of time on the road in search of suitable races. Shane Everson is a good example.
During the break from Grafton racing Shane and his team ventured to twelve different race meetings at seven different tracks with the travel proving worthwhile as three winners were added for the season.
The first came at Lismore in mid December when Sun Topaze scored a strong win in the Maiden 1526m ridden by Dan Peisley. The gelding never went around a runner coming from midfield in the run to win with some authority.
The stables two other winners were courtesy of Once A Lady and Jon Grisedale when that mare simply ran her rivals into the ground on two occasions. Firstly at Taree in a 1005m BM 58 in late December followed by Port Macquarie in a similar event in early January.
No doubt with the return to racing at home Shane will be looking for similar success.
