One thing you can guarantee is if you are in racing for any length of time it will bring you back to earth with a thud only to make you love it again when a plan comes together soon after.
Grafton based trainer Terry Commerford can attest to this in spades following week one of the racing season.
On Thursday morning Terry was very disappointed when Face The Facts drew the carpark at Casino on Saturday.
However never mind because that was Saturday and Terry was off to Coffs Cup day with Ambridge which was going to run punters elect in the $40K maiden.
A few hours later and initial disappointment had now turned to bewilderment when Ambridge was a beaten horse after only 300 meters and never in the hunt.
Fast forward to Saturday and Face The Facts which had got a bad case of the blows out to $11 after most punters thought the horror gate had put her winning chances to bed.
Enter Ben Looker and a masterful ride from gate 12 in the 1400m maiden. By the time the field had reached the 1000m he was one out, one back and before the run up the big Casino hill he was third the fence getting the run of the race.
Once heads were turned for home Face The Facts worked into the clear and sprinted quickly to score a solid victory.
It was a great result for Commerford who found the filly as an unbroken 2yo on an online auction before securing stable clients to join the ownership group. Face The Facts how now recorded a win and two placings but it is hard to say she has ever run a poor race.
