Taree cup carnival provided the opportunity for Grafton trainers to ply their trade on the weekend and for the second year running John Shelton made the journey and came home with one of the feature events as a prize.
In 2019 it was Tarbert in the Hopkins Livermore Cup but in 2020 it was Great Marlow in the $40K maiden 1400m.
Like many of the stables recent winners Great Marlow was steered to victory by Ben Looker.
Looker had partnered the gelding in four of his five runs this preparation all at the local cup meetings Casino, Grafton, Coffs Harbour and now Taree and he has been in feature maidens at three of the four where his form has been great without winning with two seconds and a fourth being added to his CV.
Yesterday Looker was happy to go back at barrier rise and travel near the rail before shifting to the centre of the track coming to the turn to give the gelding an uninterrupted run to the line and Great Marlow did the rest racing away to score a very impressive victory.
The win is the second for the Shelton yard with Great Marlow giving them a great start to the new season.
Great Marlow scores a big win.
