As all of us in racing know there is no better leveller in life than having racehorses.
One minute you are down in the dumps as things go wrong over and over again. The next you are on cloud nine when a winner comes trotting back to scale.
It is fair to say that Greg Kilner had a fairly ordinary start to the current racing season when stable favourite Kennysing was euthanised after an unplaced run at the Casino Cup meeting. However in the weeks since Kilner has pretty much positioned himself on cloud nine.
Spills won at the Grafton meeting in mid August but it has been the last week that has really seen the stable luck turn around.
At Coffs Harbour on Sunday stable newcomer Vocation lived up to his early promise when she scored an impressive victory in the BM 58 1000m ridden by Luke Rolls Vocation settled just off the speed in a quickly run race before working into clear air below the 300m to race to the line to win well.
Kilner kept the run of luck well and truly hot when he ventured to Kempsey with stable veteran.
The 8yo which has been with Kilner for all of his fifty seven starts came from midfield the fence and courtesy of a great Jon Grisedale ride found all the runs from the 600m to establish a winning break before the 200m.
The win was the fifth for Kilner but took his prizemoney to almost $150K. It is truly a great training effort because to keep this old marvel sound and right is no easy task.
It might have taken two winners in two starters but Greg Kilner was all smiles after his second winner in five days.
