As the countdown commences for the July Racing Carnival we will start to review just how the Grafton based trainers are performing in the build up to July 2024.
First in focus will be Jason Reilly who had a great day at the Ulmarra Chip In day on Saturday.
Jason came up with a winning double for the afternoon. His first success coming in the Maiden 1030m when Wotsit scored a final stride victory under the guidance of Kirk Matheson.
The son of Maurice was purchased in an online sale recently from the Waterhouse/ Bott conglomerate after the gelding had been placed in just one of five trials under their care.
Without a trial but with some gear adjustments to help keep his mind on the job Wotsit sat just behind the leaders before launching a solid run below the 200m to find the front right on the line.
Reilly’s next winner was also courtesy of an astute online sale purchase when Pride Of Ashleigh scored a solid win in the Maiden 1700m.
Ridden by Mollie Fitzgerald Pride Of Ashleigh had been knocking on the door finishing close up at three of he last four starts in similar races. On Saturday Pride Of Ashleigh went straight to the top dictated terms to a nicety to never really look in danger of defeat.
The winning double takes team Reilly to six winners for the season and a with a few weeks remaining there well could be more to come.
