With racing for the new season well under way and Grafton racing back in full swing it is time to get back to the news.
At Grafton on Saturday two locals found their way to the winners circle.
Lisa Sheppard was first to celebrate when Charles Rennie overcame a wide draw and a horror run in transit to score in the maiden 1175m. Ridden by Steven Cummins Charles Rennie got into a three wide with cover position mid race before being shunted wide on the home turn.
Once balanced in the straight Charles Rennie came with a solid finish to win running away. It was good training effort when you consider Charles Rennie was resuming from a long break without a trial and won with something in the locker.
Grafton’s next winner went to the in form Jason Reilly yard which had also won a race at the previous Grafton meeting.
On this occasion Jason saddled up Pride Of Ashleigh which was narrowly beaten at its most recent start.
This time Pride Of Ashleigh had to overcome a wide draw to find the fence and was then attacked in front throughout the run but kicked away shortly after heads were turned for home to score a very impressive victory.
The win continues the solid association between trainer Reilly and Mollie Fitzgerald who in recent months have combined to win three races from less than twenty rides.
