Murwillumbah has never been a real happy hunting ground for Grafton trainers over the years but last weeks meeting put that hoodoo to bed in no uncertain terms.
Shane Everson who has had some success at the Tweed in the past started the day well when the lightly raced Old Timing Man scored an impressive victory in the Maiden 1100m.
Old Timing Man was having just his second run this preparation and his fourth overall but overcame an awkward draw to work his way to the front near the 800m. Jon Grisedale was then able to give the gelding a breather which proved to a winning move with Old Timing Man finding a kick on the home turn and plenty in the run to to the line to win well.
The win continues a good season for the Everson camp recording four winners in the last 14 weeks.
The next Grafton prepared winner came courtesy of Cathy Chapman when Sweet William proved to be just that coming from last to score a big win in the Class 1 2000m.
Ridden by replacement rider Emily Atkinson Sweet William settled around fifteen lengths of the lead mid is race before Atkinson got on her bike near the 600m to begin a long and searching run around the field.
Once heads were turned for home Atkinson headed wide and Sweet William quickly rounded up the opposition to win running away.
Like Shane Everson the Chapman yard has been in great form with Sweet William providing the stable with its fifth winner for the season.
